General Provisions

This Disclaimer (the “Disclaimer”) forms an integral part of:

  • the Ethical and Professional Code of Transformational Game Practitioners of the International Association of Transformational Game Practitioners (IATGP);

  • the internal regulatory documents of the Association, to the extent applicable to members of the Association;

  • all public materials, programs, events, and services provided by members of the Association.

This Disclaimer applies to all individuals participating in transformational games, programs, educational and other activities, as well as to any persons using the Association’s materials, regardless of whether such activities are delivered online or offline.

By using the services of practitioners who are members of IATGP, participating in transformational games, or accessing the Association’s materials, individuals confirm their agreement with the terms of this Disclaimer.

1. Nature of Services Provided

1.1

Transformational games, game sessions, workshops, educational programs, and other activities conducted by practitioners who are members of IATGP fall within the scope of educational, developmental, and facilitative practices.

1.2

The services provided by transformational game practitioners are not and do not replace:

  • psychotherapy;

  • medical, psychiatric, or psychological services requiring licensing;

  • clinical diagnosis or treatment;

  • legal, financial, or other regulated professional advice.

1.3

All insights, conclusions, changes in awareness or emotional state, and decisions arising during or after participation in a transformational game are the result of the participant’s own internal process.

The practitioner facilitates the process but does not make decisions on behalf of the participant and bears no responsibility for the participant’s subsequent actions.

2. No Guarantee of Results

2.1

Neither the Association nor its members guarantee any specific result, healing, “breakthrough,” change in life circumstances, or health outcome.

2.2

Any examples, case studies, testimonials, success stories, or descriptions of possible effects are provided for illustrative purposes only and do not constitute promises or guarantees of similar outcomes.

2.3

The participant bears sole responsibility for how they interpret their experience and for any decisions made following participation in a game or session.

3. Personal Responsibility of the Participant

3.1

Participation in transformational games is a voluntary and informed choice of the participant.

3.2

The participant acknowledges and confirms that they:

  • bear personal responsibility for their physical, mental, and emotional condition before, during, and after participation;

  • will inform the practitioner of any serious medical, psychological, or other conditions that may make participation unsafe;

  • will independently seek assistance from appropriate licensed professionals (physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, legal or financial advisors, etc.) when necessary.

3.3

The participant understands that transformational games may evoke emotional responses, memories, and internal experiences.

In the event of significant distress or deterioration of condition, the participant agrees to discontinue participation and seek appropriate professional assistance.

4. Confidentiality and Personal Information (PIPEDA)

4.1

Members of IATGP are committed to maintaining confidentiality and complying with applicable Canadian data protection legislation, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

4.2

Personal information provided by a participant is used solely for:

  • organizing and delivering games and programs;

  • follow-up communication and support, where consent has been given;

  • other purposes explicitly agreed to by the participant.

4.3

Personal information may be disclosed to third parties only:

  • with the explicit consent of the participant; or

  • as required by applicable law.

4.4

The Association and its members take reasonable measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access.

Participants acknowledge that the use of online platforms inherently involves technical risks beyond the reasonable control of the Association.

5. Limitation of Liability

5. Limitation of Liability

5.1

Neither the Association nor its directors, officers, employees, partners, or members shall be liable for:

• any direct or indirect consequences of decisions, actions, or omissions made by the participant following participation in a game;

• emotional or psychological reactions experienced by the participant, provided the practitioner acted in good faith, within their professional competence, and in accordance with the Ethical and Professional Code;

• technical failures, connectivity issues, or other circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Association.

5.2

In the case of paid services, the liability of the practitioner shall be limited to the amount paid for services that were not provided, unless otherwise required by applicable law or expressly agreed in writing.

5.3

IATGP does not provide employment, job placement or recruitment services. Membership in the Association, participation in its programs and events, and receipt of any certificates or credentials do not constitute an employment relationship and do not guarantee employment, self-employment, income, professional success or any specific career or economic outcome.

6. Vulnerable Individuals and Crisis Situations

6.1

Transformational games are not intended for individuals experiencing acute psychological crises, suicidal ideation, severe addiction, or serious mental health conditions without concurrent support from an appropriate licensed professional.

6.2

If signs of a crisis or serious mental health condition are identified, the practitioner may suspend or terminate participation and recommend that the participant seek assistance from qualified professionals or emergency services.

6.3

The Association and its members do not function as emergency or crisis-response services and do not provide emergency assistance.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1

All materials, games, methodologies, texts, and symbols of IATGP are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

7.2

Unauthorized copying, distribution, modification, or use of materials, as well as the delivery of training or certification programs without proper authorization or licensing, is prohibited.

7.3

Use of the Association’s materials is permitted only in accordance with valid agreements, licenses, and with proper attribution.

8. Consistency with the Ethical and Professional Code

This Disclaimer shall be applied and interpreted in conjunction with the Ethical and Professional Code of IATGP.

8.2

In the event of discrepancies or inconsistencies, priority shall be given to:

  • the principles of safety, voluntariness, and respect; and

  • the applicable laws of Canada.

8.3

Violation of the Ethical and Professional Code and/or this Disclaimer may result in internal measures as provided for in the Association’s governing documents.
